Sorry if this makes you sing The Spice Girls all day
At the gym this morning, I saw “The Guy Who Drinks Smoothies and Lifts Heavy and Smiles to Say Hello as I Enter and Goodbye as He Leaves.” (He told me his name once, but I promptly forgot that two-syllable label, so now I’m stuck with this much longer, but more descriptive, name for him).
We don’t usually talk to each other, but today we had an actual exchange as we silently negotiated access to the chin-up bar. I shared that my goal for chin-ups, which I totally can’t do yet, is to just keep showing up for them, hanging out with them daily, to see what happens. He said he did 6 chin-ups yesterday for the first time because “It’s 2024 and I decided that was the moment I’d been waiting for to finally do 6 chin-ups.” I still don’t know his name, but I hope this conversation will stay with me all year.
Five years ago I participated in a coaching certification program that asked me to set intentions for my life in one, five, and ten-year increments. I hadn’t looked at them again until yesterday, but dang was it startling to see that not only have I done what I set out to do, but that I’m way ahead of the schedule I set for myself.
In episode #7 of The Uplifters Podcast Susannah Ludwig and I discuss the power of setting clear intentions and sharing them boldly.
Since then, Susannah and I have continued to find proof in our lives, and in the lives of those we coach, that when we muster the courage to speak our dreams out loud, we start to build pathways for them to become reality.
For all sorts of messy reasons, though, most of us keep our dearest dreams as quiet secrets, believing that if we close our eyes and wish on a blown-out candle things will magically shift. Alas, I’ve never found that works well in my life. I have found that speaking my goals loudly, despite all of the reasons I hesitate to claim them, is remarkably effective.
What would it feel like to give your dearest dreams a voice in 2024? If you’re ready, drop them in the chat below and see what it feels like to let others hear them.
Each month, I co-host with one of our Uplifters Ambassadors, a live Zoom discussion on a topic that impacts Uplifters for our paid subscribers. This month, we are opening the invite to everyone! Please join Susannah Ludwig and me for a completely free guided intention-setting session on January 24, 2024, at 6 PM ET.
There’s no need to prepare anything or to even know what your dearest dreams are. We promise to create a safe, welcoming, and courageous space and guide you through the process step-by-step so that you can leave the conversation ready to go after what you want, what you really, really want in 2024!
See you soon! In the meantime, Listen to the latest episode of The Uplifters Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Substack, or YouTube, or follow our TikTok for uplifting daily videos.
