It's time to put all of your preparations to work
Happy Monday, Uplifters!
Shannon Eastin, the first female official in the NFL, and the most recent guest on The Uplifters Podcast, surprised me. Since she was a woman who chose to trailblaze in the manliest of men’s worlds, I expected her to be someone who approached life with a clear-coded set of rules and a take-no-BS approach to facing challenges, but instead, she was collaborative, curious, and gracious, qualities that have long been associated with success in “women’s worlds”.
In our conversation, she explained how she makes the transitions from her natural tendencies to those her role requires, how she balances hard and soft, and how she stays true to herself and her values while holding authority.
When I asked her why she wrote her book Lady Ref now, she explained that she’d been thinking about it, talking about it, and wanting to do it for years, but it wasn’t until someone she trusted, who had been down her road, looked her in the eyes and said, “Shannon, stop talking about it and just do it”.
Maybe we all need that challenge from time to time, so today, while many of us are still a little gooey from a long weekend, could I be that voice for you? Whatever it is you’ve been talking about, thinking about, and working up the nerve to do, what if today is the day you start turning all that preparation into action?
