Where you are right now is the culmination of everywhere you’ve ever been. Everything you’ve ever known. Everything you have seen, done, and heard.
My precious grandmother, my soul’s mate, now 95, was born in the great depression. Her family was so poor that they had to move almost monthly, chasing crops, and starting a new life each time. (Kristin Hannah’s The Four Winds tells a story similar to my grandmother’s.) Each day, each week, was a question of survival that shaped how she’s lived since. Each of her chapters has been its own story, a culmination of the others, and a launch pad for the next.
I’ll be 49 this Wednesday. I did a big thing last week, the sort of thing that I tell myself takes months of dedicated time, and thus put off over and over because who has months of dedicated time? But I did it in one hour by pulling together pieces I’d written over the last decade, organizing them based on some principles I’ve developed in the last few years, and trusting that my first draft was supposed to be messy. It’s not finished, but neither am I. This story is still being written. It feels meaningful and purposeful to know that all of my chapters keep culminating. Even more exciting? I may only be halfway through this life- one with the potential for more surprises than my imagination can even conjure.
Sometimes we forget all of the places we’ve been. We forget that they have the potential to be mined for our next chapters, to give even the painful and hard bits some purpose.
Thanks for being right here right now. I’m so excited to see where your past takes you next.

✨ You can listen to every episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Substack, or wherever you get your podcasts. For those of you who are more visual, you’ll find a video of Amy Cohen and me below. Grab your tissues and have a good cry with us. My Emmy-winning husband says it’s the best episode yet, so if you haven’t listened before, this episode might be a good place to begin.
✨ Each month, I thank our paid subscribers with a community workshop featuring one of our Uplifters Ambassadors. Last Wednesday, I hosted a workshop led by Coach Sam France of Episode 17 that helped us understand the intersection of sleep issues and mental fitness. I learned so much that I’m already using to rest easier. Thanks, Sam! Check out the video below if you missed it live.
