Not even you can do a year's worth of work in one day
A quick poll | The chaos whisperer | Tiny steps | More wholesome goodness
Happy Humpday!
Some goals feel like fuel catapulting us into progress. Others leave us feeling like we are totally out of gas.
In our most recent episode of The Uplifters Podcast, Sonya Weisshappel, The Chaos Whisperer, talks about the difference between project goals and task goals.
Project goals feel exciting. They are also nebulous and can paralyze our progress. If you’ve ever tried to run a marathon without a training plan, you get it. Or maybe you’ve pictured yourself showing up at a summer wedding or reunion looking and feeling your best, only to find that when the day comes, you actually feel worse than before you set that goal? It’s because dreams are inspiring, but they are merely a starting point. Turning them into reality, is a step-by-step process, with lots of tiny choices, struggles, and successes that add up to something bigger together.
Every goal requires the same three core resources: Motivation, Energy, and Time. Which do you need more of to help you take steps toward your goal?
You’ve probably heard this advice before. Heck, you’ve probably done it before. But, is there something you really want to do that you just aren’t doing? Does it need to be broken down today, to help you get started or keep moving forward?
Here are a few questions you might want to ask yourself as you turn your project into a plan 🤩:
What’s the easiest thing I could do to learn more about what tasks are required for accomplishing this project?
Do the tasks this requires fit with my life?
Do I really want to do this, or am I just doing it because I feel like I should?
How might I adjust my expectations of myself and my goal to make it a better fit for my time, energy, and motivation?
How might I enlist some support to make each task or step easier?
Next up on The Uplifters Podcast
This Friday, you’ll meet Alexis Nelson, an Air Force Veteran, Wife, Dog-mom, and Meteorology student, who was nominated for The Uplifters by Beth Raynor Webb, whose fearlessness we all fell in love with in Episode 5 of our show. Alexis’s 14 years in the Air Force-Minnesota National Guard have landed her in some pretty tough situations. She shares how she keeps her spirits high even in the most difficult moments and how she uses open, honest communication to ensure that she is equipped to care for her needs.
