Watching the waves helps you ride them 🌊
My brother, the wise rider.
Happy Fearless Friday!
Waves are simple, right? In. Out. Repeat. Maybe that’s true on the surface, but in reality every single moment of every single wave is unique. That is why my brother, a lifelong surfer, who lives on Kauai, spends as much time on the beach watching the waves as he does in the water among them. He sits and stares (sometimes for hours) at where the wave breaks, where it goes after it breaks, the number of waves that pass before the best of each set. He has learned what so many of us struggle to, that paying attention to our patterns can teach us what works and where things fall apart. Without “beach surfing” his precious energy on the rides would be spent trying to understand the pattern from the back of the wave. By facing them head on, eyes toward the horizon, he sets himself up to approach the waves with wisdom, mental preparation, and confidence.
Each of us has the same opportunity. By letting our experiences be our teachers, instead of getting beaten down by the rough rides, we can get built up by them. Here’s to actively creating space for ourselves to get curious, to find the patterns and then ride the waves of life with wisdom.
PS, and sorry this is so last minute, but I wanted to invite you to join my wildly inspiring friend Kyia Downing and I later today for a fun and casual, and totally free, mandala-making session today at 2 pm EST. Don't know what a mandala is? No worries. Don't think you're creative? No problem! This session is for anyone who wants to spend a little time appreciating the natural beauty around them (even in the midst of a concrete jungle). All are welcome! If you're interested, just respond to this message and I'll send you all the details.
If you enjoy these Fearless Friday updates, please share them with your people. They can sign up here. Want to learn more about LiveUp and what we're doing? Click here, or just respond to this message.
Here’s to learning our way forward, together.
