This crazy-making time is your big moment to reinvent!
My girls. Shoulders back. Chins up. Ready for anything... even middle school.
My kids returned to school yesterday. They were nervous. And I was nervous for them, because middle school is tough. It's a time of huge and constant change in their social patterns, bodies, and minds. On top of that, it’s been a long time since they’ve been in school. So, we talked about their worries and wishes. We made plans. We prepared.
But, I totally forgot to consider what their transition would mean for me: how much it would change my eating, sleeping, exercising, working, thinking, and relating routines, and how those changes would influence me overall.
We get so focused on the big "next" that we forget to pay attention to all the little ripples of our "new".
The lack of attention means our routines get messy and turned around and we find ourselves six months later wondering what the heck happened and when everything changed.
The lack of intention means we end up walking into new rooms uncertain, unclear, shoulders hunched and head down.
But, friends, this moment of change is our big chance to reinvent. When everything is up in the air we have a rare and precious opportunity to look at our current routines and ways of being, and choose how we set ourselves up for success. Here's what I'm asking myself right now:
🌟How might this change influence the other cornerstones of your life? Are there routines you want to hold onto or release? What might make that easier? What might get in the way?
🌟How do you want to walk into that new “new”? What would it take for you to enter this season with a strong voice, eyes wide with curiosity, and shoulders back, knowing that you’re right where you need to be? (PS Research shows you don’t even need to believe you’re all that. Sometimes just tossing those shoulders back is enough to help you see your potential and act as if.)
If, like me, you don’t know these answers right away, know that’s ok too. The power is just as much in asking as in answering.
These are weird and uncertain times, and sometimes it feels like there's no stable ground to stand on. Here’s a loving reminder to take a moment and choose how you want to be as you shift into your next move, next job, next school, next schedule, next identity, next relationship or whatever your next “next” is.
