3 anytime/anywhere ways stop future tripping. đ
Hi friends!
Can we talk about future tripping? You know that feeling when youâre watching your kids splashing in the pool on vacation and somewhere in the midst of enjoying their giggles you start to think about the all the ways your trip home could become a disaster, or you get that promotion at work and immediately begin to think about Bob from the office down the hall judging your leadership style, or you meet some hottie for a date and immediately begin wondering if theyâll cheat on you or youâll disappoint them just by being you. I call this âfuture trippingâ. Itâs time spent fretting about future situations, over which we have no control, that take us out of the present. For many of us, we future trip constantly and it totally sucks the joy out of the present moment.Â
Many of our LiveUp crew are actively focused on this right now. The best and biggest ways I know to stop the habit of future tripping are:Â
1. Acknowledge that you're trippin'. Get into your logical brain and name it for what it is. âOh, heeeeey, future tripper! Welcome to the party! Weâve met before!â
2. Take a deep breath and tune into whatâs factually happening in the present moment. Ask yourself, âWhat are the sounds I am hearing? What are the sights Iâm seeing? What smells am I smelling? What am I feeling?â
3. Â Worrying about the future is a deep hole, but considering the possibilities of the future is an elevator! If you find yourself asking âWhat if I fail?â or âWhat if things donât work out?â try substituting it with some version of the powerful questions I learned from my brave and brilliant friend Lina Balcom. âWhat if I succeed?â or âWhat if it does work out?â This simple mind shift can change everything.Â
Life is ripe with possibilities! But, wasting our energy on future tripping makes us so much less likely to take risks, be bold, grow and discover!Â
Whatâs lifting you up or bringing you down? Iâd love to hear from you!
