In our most recent episode of The Uplifters Podcast, Tamecka Murray shared the steps she took to reinvent her life. They are the same steps I’ve used with every client I’ve ever worked with: time-boxing and accountability. These two factors can combine to be a simple and powerful accelerant for moving us from “thinking and wishing” to “doing and being”.
So, what does this mean for real life?
Set a goal.
Identify the specific actions you’ll take to move forward (knowing that some of them will feel super inactive because they are preparing you to take the active steps).
Get yourself a buddy to share your progress with on a regular cadence.
These steps often aren’t quite as straightforward as they seem. There’s a science to setting goals that get us going, creating plans that motivate us, and finding buddies that supercharge our goals. But, I’ve used this process with clients (and my kids) in a million different ways. If we get really specific about all of it and show up for ourselves in ways that prove we care, it works. Every time.

This is such a powerful question and one I find sometimes difficult to answer right away. Last year when my husband was going through chemotherapy, I really struggled with answering this question for myself. I had no idea what kind of support I needed. I thought, "I can do this myself, I'm not the one who is sick, I don't need to ask for help or support." Luckily, a few close friends showed up for me and I was able to see what support would be helpful as each day passed.
Thank you for sharing another powerful, uplifting episode Aransas.
Making a habit of hunting down to reflect on things I did better, different or more of makes my life richer and I feel proud inside more often.
I said yes last month to a mysterious email. It said “ join us for a storytelling writers workshop this Saturday.” With few details I just went. No, I was called. It beckoned. Good stories motivate and mesmerize me. 6 brave souls came together. The theme was school daze. Surprise surprise they casually recorded me. I submitted, was selected, attended a rehearsal the filling week and took to the stage that Tuesday.
Female storytellers of Tucson gathers monthly and I loved the experience. 75 guests liked it too and ticket sales proceeds went to a school for foster kids.
