Balance Is An Action
Happy Fearless Friday, Friends!
One of the smartest things I’ve done in a long time was to plan Date Days with each member of my family.
🍕One day with my sweetheart, eating and drinking and shopping the city.
🎭 One day with my thespian/aspiring actress seeing Pictures from Home on Broadway.
💃One day with my fashionista/aspiring costumer seeing Thierry Mugler at Brooklyn Museum.
Inspired by the Harvard Happiness Study, I wrote a list for each of them of 23 things I love and admire about them in 2023. Over hot chocolate or wine, I looked them in the eyes and told them how I feel and how I see them. It was profound and beautiful and unforgettable.
This week was different. This was a head down, nonstop, barely staying above water week of work. It was a toss some takeout on the table and scarf down dinner while frantically catching up on schedules and plans before we dive back into homework and housework kind of week.
There was a time when I’d have felt guilty about this imbalance. But, I’ve come to believe that life balance is not something we measure on a weekly basis. Sometimes the scale tilts more towards family, work, or friendship, or self-care.
We won’t, and can’t, be all things to all people all of the time. We can keep tilting until we find that sweet spot, even if it’s just in a tiny tender moment.
