Happy Fearless Friday, Friends!
Years ago, a friend told me that the most important thing I could teach my kids was to listen to their bodies. Our bodies will keep tapping us on the shoulder until they get our attention. And the longer we ignore them, just like my kids, they'll keep getting louder until we listen.
I’ve thought about this advice a lot and recently realized that one of the main reasons we don’t communicate with our bodies is that we don’t know the language. And of course, just like any language, it takes time and dedication to learn. But unlike other languages, Duolingo can't teach us this uniquely intimate and personal dialect.
Now it may seem silly to bring this up on today of all days, when probably only a handful of you will even open this message between cleaning and wrapping and fretting and shopping and checking the mail for that Amazon package that said it was delivered, but isn’t there, and cleaning up cat puke, and missing loved ones you’ve lost, and calling old friends and family and baking cookies and keeping traditions alive and making new traditions.
But, actually, maybe today is the perfect day to bring this up.
And, maybe, today more than just about any other day, we could use a break.
So, here’s a little 3-minute guided meditation that invites you to tune into your body, listen to its unique language, and sense what it’s saying to you in shivers and stutters and twinges and tweaks.
What is your body telling you? Does it want more stillness? More movement? More strength? More softness? More togetherness? More aloneness? More or less food? Rest? Water? Fresh air? Hugs? Blankets?
